Day 7/8 Sat & Sun, April 9 - 10                         Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
At Sea

With the eclipse behind us, our astronomical attention turns to the spectacular southern sky and the surprisingly important role of the South Pacific in the history of astronomy. Join our astronomy team as their lecture series continues. Join us on deck each clear evening for southern-sky stargazing.

  Day 9/10 Mon & Tue, April 11 - 12                   Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Easter Island

Halfway between Tahiti and South America, this is the most remote inhabited island in the world. Known locally as Rapa Nui, it adopted its more familiar name after one Johannes Roggeeveen discovered the island on Easter Sunday in 1722. Like him, you’ll come face to face with the ancient Moais. Eight hundred of these giant statues representing high chiefs of competing tribes are dotted around the island. Some weigh up to 80 tons, and it remains a mystery how they were quarried and moved before the invention of the wheel. Our overnight stay gives us time to explore the island and to relax on the pristine sands of Anakena Beach. Take advantage of an optional drive to the top of volcanic Rano Kau for a visit to the ceremonial village of Orongo.

Our astronomical lecture series continues with presentations on the astronomy of ancient Polynesia and Peru, new frontiers in astronomical research, upcoming eclipses, and other hot topics in contemporary astronomy. Join us on deck each clear evening for southern-sky stargazing.

Day 16 Mon, April 18
Pisco, Peru

A nature-lover’s paradise, this Peruvian region boasts beautiful beaches that rise up in the middle of a vast expanse of desert. The contrast is captivating. The town itself is a modest village bustling with life. Locals dedicate themselves to industrial fishing activities and creating exquisite craft items. From the nearby Paracas Resort, tours to the Ballestas, also called the Little Galapagos of Peru, leave daily.
