Day 1  Sun, April 3, 2005                                Dinner
Fly to Tahiti - Arrive in Papeete, Tahiti
Today, you¹ll begin your travels to Papeete, Tahiti. Most travelers will be flying to Tahiti at about 1:00 PM from Los Angeles on
the day of the cruise April 3. Upon arrival in Papeete you will be
transferred directly from the airport to the ship. This schedule is
different from the previous brochure schedule that had you departing Los Angeles quite late in the evening on April 2, and flying overnight to Papeete.

The ship Departs at 2350hrs

  Day 2 Mon, April 4                                           Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
M
oorea, Tahiti

Moorea, an island whose beauty inspired James Michener’s Bali Hai, offers spectacular scenery. White-sand beaches and picturesque bays stand in sharp contrast to jagged volcanic peaks that disappear into the clouds. Often described as the most beautiful place on Earth, Moorea offers a real South Seas experience — a relaxed existence amidst white sand and multicolored lagoons.
Arrive 0700hrs - Depart 1300hrs

  Day 3/4 Tue & Wed, April 5 - 6                         Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
At Sea
Join our stellar astronomy staff for illustrated lectures and informal discussions in preparation for Friday’s total eclipse of the Sun. Rick Fienberg, Ed Krupp, and George Keene will offer expert tips on how to watch the event and how to capture it with still and video cameras. Join us on deck each clear evening for southern-sky stargazing.

  Day 5 Thu, April 7                                            Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
P
itcairn Island

Tiny Pitcairn Island will forever be associated with the Mutiny on the Bounty. Most of the residents here trace their ancestry back to the mutineers. A number of them will come on board and regale us with stories of the mutiny. Still speaking in an “Olde English” accent, they’ll tell us about their ancestors’ struggle, their escape from the island, and the chase back under fire from the British Navy. Weather permitting, you’ll have a chance to step ashore at Bounty Bay, where the famous ship was burned on the foreshore, and to explore Adamstown with its museum, colonial-
style houses, and the Bounty’s original cannons and anchor. Pitcairn Island stamps make for valuable mementos.
Arrive 1300hrs - Depart 2300hrs

  Day 6 Fri, April 8                                             Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Eclipse Day

Our eclipse-viewing location is on the centerline of totality a few miles north of Oeno Island at latitude 23 degrees 42.7 minutes south, longitude 130 degrees 40.5 minutes west. The elevation of the Sun above the horizon at totality will be 56 degrees, and the Sun’s azimuth will be 25 degrees (to the north-northeast). Totality will occur just before local noon and will last 31.1 seconds. Later we’ll gather to share our experiences of the eclipse in words and pictures.
