After breakfast we’ll travel to Asiago to visit the Asiago
Observatory, where we’ll pass the historic 1.2-meter (48-inch) reflector,
dedicated in 1942, en route to the more modern Cima Ekar station, at

Day 4
Mon, June 7 Breakfast
- Lunch
Florence |
|
|
| |
After breakfast and checkout, we will depart for Florence. Built on the
banks of the River Arno, in a beautiful setting of hills dotted with
houses and villas, Florence is the main city of Tuscany and enjoys a
worldwide reputation for its wonderful richness of renaissance art and
culture and the high quality of its monuments and art treasures. We’ll
begin our visit just east of the Ponte Vecchio, the city’s famous river
bridge, with a tour of the Museum of the History of Science. This
wonderful facility offers a rare glimpse into Galileo’s many revolutionary
contributions to science. We’ll see two of his original telescopes and the
objective lens he used to discover Jupiter’s four largest moons. The
museum also houses the skeletal middle finger of the master’s right hand!
Later this afternoon we’ll
visit the Church of Santa Croce to see the tombs of Michelangelo,
Machiavelli, Galileo, and Rossini. Then we’ll arrive at our hotel in
Piazza Antinori, in the heart of Florence. Facing the baroque church of
SS. Michele and Gaetano, the Hotel Della Villa lies at the end of Via
Tornabuoni, the most elegant and distinguished street of the historical
city center. The remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish.
Overnight: Hotel Della Villa (3 nights) |
