  Libya Weather Prospects

by Jay Anderson, Eclipse Meteorologist

The weather prospects south of Jalu in the Libyan Desert are among the finest on the eclipse track. Weather systems travelling along the Mediterranean coast seldom have an influence this far inland, and the occasional cloud is usually associated with weak cold fronts that pass quickly. Even the legendary Saharan dust storms are likely to be muted when compared to coastal locations, as the strongest winds with the cold fronts tend to remain north of Jalu.

  Day 6 Thu, March 30                                                                                  B/L/D
Eclipse Camp - Tripoli

After breakfast, we’ll drive to a nearby airport and board a privately chartered aircraft for the non-stop flight back to Tripoli. This afternoon, we’ll visit local sites in the city.
Overnight: Al Wahat Hotel, Tripoli (2 nights)

  Day 7 Fri, March 31                                                                                    B/L/D
Tripoli

Join us for a full day exploration of Tripoli to see its famous medina (old city), one of the best classical sites along the entire Mediterranean. The basic street plan was laid out in the Roman period, when the first fortified wall was constructed. Subsequent ramparts and fortifications were added over the centuries to protect from many invasions.
We’ll also visit the Red Castle fortress, which represented the seat of power until the 20th century. Dominating the skyline of Tripoli, this massive structure comprises a labyrinth of courtyards, alleyways and houses built up over the centuries displaying the art and architecture of all the former rulers. This evening, join us for a farewell dinner.
