Day 2 Fri, Nov. 1                                                                   Breakfast
Arrive Reykjavik and Blue Lagoon

Early morning arrival at Reykjavík’s Keflavík Airport, where we will clear customs and travel by private motorcoach to the famous Blue Lagoon, where we will enjoy a welcome breakfast. Afterwards, we can swim in the warm aqua-tinted, mineral-rich water known for its curative powers.

The Blue Lagoon

From the Blue Lagoon, we will travel through amazing lava fields to the capital city of Reykjavík. After a short rest, we’ll enjoy a guided tour through town. Weaving our way through narrow alleys framed with old timber houses, we will learn about the city’s history, from its very beginning in 874 A.D. We will visit the harbor and Hallgrimskirkja, whose church tower offers a panoramic view of Reykjavík, including the fjord and mountains. Join us today for discussions on the aurora and photographic techniques. The evening is yours to enjoy on your own.
Overnight: Hotel Loftledir (2 nights)

Day 3 Sat, Nov. 2                                                                  Breakfast
Free day in Reykjavík

Today is free to explore Reykjavík on your own or take a sightseeing excursion. Travelers will receive a ‘menu’ of optional excursions to choose from, including a 4x4 Jeep tour to the rhyolite area of Landmannalaugar, or a tour through Reykjavík’s fine museums.

Day 4 Sun, Nov. 3                                                                 Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Thingvellir ancient Viking parliament

After a morning of leisure, we will have lunch together before leaving the city and heading to Thingvellir National Park to stroll around Iceland’s most sacred site, the home of the old Viking parliament Althingi. Thingvellir, known for its fascinating natural beauty, is geologically spectacular, set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures and Iceland’s largest lake, Thingvallavatn.

Thingvellir

In the late afternoon we’ll arrive at Efri Bru, pop. 50, where we’ll stay at a charming farmhouse that has recently added comfortable accommodations for travelers to this beautiful area. After dinner, join us outside the hotel for our first night of aurora viewing. Overnight: Efri Bru Country Hotel (2 nights).

Day 5 Mon, Nov. 4                                                               Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Gullfoss Waterfall & Geysir Hot Spring area

Today’s excursion includes many of the scenic wonders for which Iceland is justly renowned. We will begin our day exploring the other-worldly hot spring area of Geysir, to
see multicolored pools of water and mud. The geyser Strokkur erupts to a height of about 25 meters (82 feet) and goes off every 5 to 7 minutes. After lunch, we will drive to the mighty Gullfoss Falls (Golden Waterfall), perhaps the most beautiful in the country.

We’ll walk around Gullfoss, where the river Hvitá tumbles 32 meters in a double cascade. When the Sun is shining, we’re likely to see a rainbow through the massive spray that forms. On our way back to Efri Bru we will stop at Skálholt, the site of an ancient bishopric that was Iceland’s main cultural center for many centuries, and picturesque Kerid, a lake-filled extinct volcanic crater. Join us this evening for our second night of aurora viewing.
