Day 3
Wednesday, November 19
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Puerto Natales
After breakfast and checkout, we’ll transfer to Puerto
Natales, midway point between Punta Arenas and the Torres del Paine
National Park. We will check into our hotel and enjoy a light lunch
before our afternoon excursion.
Traveling along Seno de
Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope Inlet), with its many blackneck swans,
we will pass the old buildings of Frigorificos Bories (Bories Cold
Storage House). This route goes through a large valley and past a
large rock formation that is known as the Silla del Diablo (Devil’s
Seat) just before arriving at the Cueva del Milodon. At the end of
the past century, the remains of a prehistoric Milodon were found in
the 200-meter-deep Milodon Cave. The huge size of the cave is due to
a geological fault of carbonate, which was slowly dissolved by
seeping water. You can walk into the cave and look back to see the
silhouette of a life-size Milodon recreation guarding the entrance
to the cave that was its refuge thousands of years ago. Early
evening return to Puerto Natales, where we will enjoy a group dinner
at the hotel.

Boat excursion to Serrano & Balmaceda Glaciers |
|
After breakfast and checkout, we’ll transfer from the hotel to the
Puerto Natales pier. Our full-day boat excursion passes through the

breathtaking scenery. After three hours of cruising the fjords, we
will come to the thousand-year-old glacier of Mount Balmaceda, which
flows off the eastern |

|
side of Bernardo O’Higgins Mountain, passing
by some of the many cormorant and sea lion colonies in the area. At
the end of the fjord, we will disembark for a walk through the
middle of a native forest to the tongue of Serrano Glacier. Lunch
will be served, with time left to explore and admire the massive
glacier. We will return to Puerto Natales in the afternoon with
immediate transfer to the Paine National Park, arriving in the
evening. Dinner will be on your own.
